About Charles Lamb

Charles Lamb worked for more than thirty years as a clerk at the East India Company in London and wrote in his spare time. His Essays of Elia, published under a pen name in the London Magazine from 1820, are gentle, funny, personal pieces that helped shape the English essay. With his sister Mary he also wrote Tales from Shakespeare for children.
