About John F. Kennedy

John Fitzgerald Kennedy was president of the United States from January 1961 until his assassination in Dallas in November 1963. He was the youngest person ever elected to the office and the first Catholic president, and his short time in the White House covered the Bay of Pigs invasion, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the start of the race to the moon and the growing civil rights movement.

Kennedy’s speeches, many of them drafted with his adviser and speechwriter Ted Sorensen, were built for the ear: short sentences, balanced opposites and lines designed to be repeated. That style is why so much of his inaugural address, his Rice University moon speech and his Berlin speech is still quoted today.
