About Ronald Reagan

Ronald Reagan was a film actor and governor of California before serving as president of the United States from 1981 to 1989. His presidency is remembered for tax cuts, a large military buildup and, in his second term, a series of summits with the Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev that helped wind down the Cold War.

Years in film and radio made Reagan a skilled speaker, nicknamed “the Great Communicator,” and he worked closely with a team of speechwriters. His most famous lines were often fought over inside his own administration before he delivered them.
