About Virgil

Publius Vergilius Maro, known as Virgil, was the greatest poet of Augustan Rome. He wrote the Eclogues, about shepherds, the Georgics, about farming, and the Aeneid, the national epic of Rome.

He died before finishing the Aeneid and is said to have asked for it to be burned, but the emperor Augustus refused.
